Working with sophisticated design tools, we ensure that your design is fully simulated prior to prototyping thereby eliminating costly design iterations and time delays. All our prototypes are fully developed and manufactured to be as close to the production item as possible.

Cost is a major factor in any product development and this is always uppermost when specifying parts for use in our designs. We also offer a cost-engineering service whereby we look at your existing product and identify ways to improve performance whilst driving down production costs.

Case Study - MEMS devices.

Carrera utilised MEMS devices in a geological instrument. Tasked with removing costs and improving performance we identified a $12 MEMS device which we thought would replace a very precise but expensive $1000 analogue sensor. Our customer was very reluctant citing our chosen device as less accurate. We were able to demonstrate that his existing analogue based electronics were incapable of delivering the required accuracy and that the cheaper MEMs device, along with revised digital control and 24bit A/D circuitry would not only improve performance but reduce material costs to less than 10% of the current unit cost. By placing the electronics directly into the measurement probe, rather than at the end of a 250m cable, we eliminated existing cable induced measurement errors and improved overall accuracy by nearly 10%. As a result, the customer saw annual sales of the revised product increase by a factor of 15 times over those of its predecessor.

Our customer recouped all his development costs within two months of the product launch.
